Chris' 17-mile hike to help stamp out loneliness and isolation

Chris Swift, Director of Chaplaincy & Spirituality for MHA, signed up for the Best For Ages 17 mile High Peak Trail Hike through Derbyshire's beautiful countryside to help stamp out loneliness and isolation for older people - one step at a time.

Ahead of his trek, the Best For Ages team caught up with Chris to ask why he felt the challenge was so important and worthwhile. He said: “Raising money enables us to go that extra mile to be able to do more for older people. So whether it’s music therapy or whether it’s someone having a chaplain who helps support them perhaps when they feel a bit lonely.

"These MHA programmes mean people don’t need to feel alone as life changes and I’ve met so many residents who can’t speak highly enough of the difference which having this support means to them.

"I recognise that life is not always easy for people and I wanted to challenge myself - along with three other friends - to take on the High Peak Trail Hike so that we at MHA are able to resource vital aspects of our work to help improve the quality of life for older people."
